JEE Main engineering entrance exam- Overview

JEE Mains is one of the top level examinations of India. JEE is a 2 stage examination conducted by CBSE Board. The interested candidates can get admissions in UG eng. /architecture courses in NITs, IITs and other institutions through JEE Mains examination, whereas IITs provide admissions to eligible candidates through JEE Advanced examination. The qualified candidates of JEE Mains will be eligible to take up JEE Advanced examination. JEE Main 2018 Notification will be released in November 2017 tentatively and Application process will be started from 1st week of December 2017. After the release of official notice, candidates may apply for the same. CBSE has introduced some new changes from the year 2017 like applicants should have Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI for filling the application form. JEE Main engineering entrance exam-Eligibility Criteria

Age:

  • Candidates should be born on or after 1st October 1993.
  • Date of Birth will be considered as mentioned in secondary education board certificate.
  • 5 years relaxation i.e. DOB falls on or after 1st October 1988 shall be provided in the upper age limit for SC/ST & PWD candidates.


Qualification:

  • Passed the 12th examination/qualifying examination with 5 subjects and must be passed/appearing with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
  • Candidates have to secure the passing marks.
  • There is no minimum marks requirement in the 12th examination for writing the JEE Main exam.
  • Those who have appeared and passed the higher secondary examination in 2016 and 2017 are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates appearing the final examination of 12th in 2018 can also fill the JEE Main application form.
  • Diploma holders may also apply for JEE Main 2018 but only eligible for admission to IITs.
  • Diploma holders will be eligible for JEE Main so that they can further apply for JEE Advanced but not eligible for admission on the basis of JEE Main scores.


Number of Attempts:

  • 3 attempts will be given for clearing the JEE Main.
  • JEE Advanced can be attempted maximum 2 times in consecutive years.

Age: Candidates should be born on or after 1st October 1993. Date of Birth will be considered as mentioned in secondary education board certificate. 5 years relaxation

Candidates are required to fill the JEE Main Application Form 2018 only through online process. The application form was available from November 2017.

Important points to be noted about JEE Main 2018 application form

  • The applicants should go through the information bulletin carefully before filling the application form.

  • They must check the eligibility criteria before they start with application process.

  • The applicants can approach any one of the facilitation centres (set up by CBSE) in case they need any kind of assistance regarding online registration.

  • Valid mail ID and contact number.

Instructions for scanned images and password

  • The scanned images of signature, photograph and thumb impression must have in jpg/jpeg format.

  • The image size for photograph should be between 4kb to 40kb, within dimension 3.5cm (width) / 4.5cm (height). The photograph must have latest and must have the name of applicants and the date.

  • The image size for signature should be between 1kb to 30kb, within dimension 3.5cm (length) / 1.5cm (height).

  • The image size for thumb impression should be between 1kb to 30kb, within dimension 3.5cm (length) / 1.5cm (height). The applicants who do not have left thumb can also submit the impression of their right hand thumb. In case, if both the thumbs are not there then impression of any other finger can also be submitted.

  • The password should be of 8-13 character using upper & lower case with minimum 1 numeric value & special character.

JEE Main 2018 Counselling at a Glance

The candidates who have qualified the JEE Main exam 2018 are eligible for the counselling process. Seat allocation will be based on the basis of rank scored by the candidates.

Candidates can select the seats of government and private engineering colleges on the basis of his/ her choice. JEE Main 2018 counselling will be held for both the courses i.e. engineering and architecture. Candidates who are eligible for both the courses will be allotted only one seat as per their first preference.

JEE Main 2018 Counselling Procedure

JEE Main counselling procedure comprises of the following steps:

Step 1- Online Registration

  • Go to the official website of JEE Main 2018.
  • Enter all the details such as name, date of birth, category, address and bank details.
  • Pay the counselling fees via- challan, debit card or credit card.

Step 2- Online Choice Filling and Locking

  • Login your account.
  • Mark options of colleges and courses after login.
  • Make choices carefully, choices once locked will not be changed.
  • Fill maximum possible choices for allotment.
  • Lock the choices before the deadline.
  • Choice locking will be done after each round of counselling.
  • Candidates can mark upgraded choice in successive rounds of choice filling and locking process.

Step 3- Seat Allotment and Document Verification

  • Allotment will be done on the basis of reservation norms, choices filled and vacancies.
  • There will be multiple rounds of counselling and seat allotment.
  • Pay the fees to confirm the allotment of seat.
  • Get all the documents checked by the officials.

JEE Main 2018 Syllabus Paper II:  

The JEE Main paper 2 has been divided into three parts i.e. mathematics, aptitude test and drawing test.

Part A: Objects, Texture related to Architecture and build environment. Visualizing three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings. Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Materials. Different sides of three dimensional objects. Visualizing. Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal).

Part B: Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil. Three dimensional – perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements, colour texture, harmony and contrast. Creating two dimensional and three dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms. Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes, Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D views of objects. Landscape (river fronts, jungles. gardens, trees, plants etc.) and rural life, sketching of scenes and activities from memory of urban space (public space, market, festivals, street scenes, monuments, recreational spaces etc).

JEE Main engineering entrance exam-Admit Card

Admit card

The admit card will be available tentatively in March 2018. Candidates will be able to download their admit card by entering the application number and password. Admit card of JEE Main 2018 will comprise important information such as candidate’s name, date of birth, paper, exam schedule, JEE Main 2018 examination center etc.

General Instructions:

  • The authority doesn’t allow candidates to appear in the exam if they do not have their genuine admit card.
  • The invigilator will ask you to show one of your photo identity proofs along with admit card. Therefore, please bring one of your identity proofs while coming to the examination centre.
  • Show your admit card to the concerned person if he/she asks you to do the same.
  • Ensure the correctness of data available in your admit card and claim, if there is any sort of errors.
  • Please download your admit card quickly after release of its respective notification.

 

Details printed on the JEE Main 2018 Admit Card:

  • Candidate’s name.
  • Father’s name.
  • Date of Birth.
  • Address.
  • Centre of Examination.
  • Centre number.
  • Date and time of the exam.
  • State of Eligibility.
